Cover Reveal: Sentient (Book Two of The Mentalist Series) by Kenechi Udogu

Vernal Greetings, Beardies!

Like Autumn stated in her latest post, this time of year is the best of all.  It's a shame it doesn't last.  Of course, here in Georgia, we've had seasonal confusions all of 2013 so far.  Spring came early—I'm not complaining about that.  Summer was confused by the stage directions in the script—it came late, started out mild, but then immediately grew cold and rainy; it rained most of the summer—I'm not complaining about that, either—but was scorching hot on the days with no precipitation.

Book Spotlight: The Survivors by Daniel Harvell

Happy Day Beardies,

I’m in season! What? No seasonal, weather joke fans out there? When I look out my window I can see the leaves are changing colors. The air is noticeably cooler and feels crisp. Everything is smelling pumpkin spiced. I am one happy camper. All joking aside, autumn is my favorite season ('tis a mystery why, right?); I’m giddy to spend every waking moment outside before the dreaded snow begins to take over the landscape. While I am a weather lover, I am a bigger book enthusiast so let’s get down to the real reason I’m here chatting it up today, another Book Spotlight.

Book Spotlight: Far Far Away by Tom McNeal

Cheers, Beardies!

You wouldn’t know it from the temperature outside, but fall is definitely coming. Down in the wetland behind my house, the leaves are starting to change, and the new slate of library programs started this week. Fall has always been my favorite season, and for some reason, I always associate it with creepy fairy tales—the creepier, the better. Although not a fairy tale in the traditional sense, today’s book is definitely a fantastic, creepy read for the season.

The Skillful Quill: Prepositions—Dangling On the Precipice of Error

Good Afternoon, Beardies!

In case you missed Mary's post on August 22nd, she wrote a compelling argument as to why prepositions at the end of sentences—though incorrect in Latin—are never technically incorrect in English, a language deriving from German. Though I respect her standpoint on the subject and understand the point she was trying to make, I whole-heartedly disagree. Amicably, of course. In this post, I will offer another view and counter some of the points presented in hers.

Book Spotlight: The Box (The Box Series, Book 1) by Christina G. Gaudet

Happy Day Beardies,

Greetings from the wild, warm west. I hope that everyone had a great summer full of sunshine, cold drinks, and good books. Mine was busy but fun. My kids requested a Phineas and Ferb summer experience, so when I wasn’t slaving away at work, we were out hunting for our next great adventure. I’m excited to be settling back down into a school year routine and having a little more down time to enjoy the changing weather. This is my first Book Spotlight here at The Bearded Scribe. This little book was a lovely summer time, sit by the pool, kind of read. Let’s dive in, shall we?

Book Spotlight: Etiquette and Espionage (Finishing School, Book 1) by Gail Carriger

Salut, Beardies!

If you felt the earth shake this Labor Day weekend, it might have had something to do with the fact that your Bearded Scribe editors did something we haven’t done since our days together at Alma College—sat down and worked together in the same room. An epic reunion years in the making, it included scenic tours of beautiful Atlanta, writing, lots of coffee, and my very first taste of the awesomeness that is Dragon*Con. Seeing all the fantastic steampunk costumes at Dragon*Con put me in the mood to write about steampunk. Luckily, I recently finished a great steampunk read!
