Book Spotlight: Truth's Blood by Tyler Roberts

Happy Day Beardies!

October is hands down the busiest month of the year in my house. We have a lot of school commitments, family activities, and of course, my kid's favorite holiday: Halloween. Who doesn't love a holiday dedicated to candy? The time and energy put into selecting a costume and picking out the perfect pumpkin is exhausting. This year I am a classroom mother so I'm planning the Halloween party that has to be lots of fun, create little mess, and have treats that cater to FIVE different food allergies. Fun will be had by all, though. To break up all the festive fall things I sat down and devoured today's Spotlight. Sit back and enjoy because this one is a thrill ride.

Book Spotlight: Fever (Chemical Garden Series, Book 2) by Lauren DeStefano

Good Day, Beardies!

School’s out for summer! I love my job, but after 2 weeks of our routine being turned on its head due to state testing, I am ready for a break. I’m usually in “relaxation” mode until July; that’s when I get the itch to start planning for the fall. Until then, I plan on working in my garden (my tomatoes are doing great!), cooking and baking (I’m taking the Wilton Cake Decorating course at Michael’s), getting started on wedding planning, and reading a ton of books!

Now that I have a little extra time, I can finish my Spotlights on Lauren DeStefano’s Chemical Garden Series. I’m sure you are anxiously wondering what has happened to Rhine. Without further ado, here is Fever, the second installment in the Chemical Garden Series.

Book Spotlight: Wool (The Silo Saga, Part One) by Hugh Howey

Welcome back, Beardies!

In this world of self-published fiction, I am always on the lookout for something self-published that holds my interest and manages to impress me with technical and storytelling skill. Sadly, these are rare finds. Wool is one of them. Granted, because I could download the novella onto my Kindle for free, I was leery to peek inside. Even reader praise didn’t make me overly hopeful about what I would find. Finally, I gave it a shot. I marked up the first page, still skeptical, but after that, I was sold.

Book Spotlight: Wither (The Chemical Garden Series, Book 1) by Lauren DeStefano

Good Day, Beardies!

I’m excited to introduce my first Book Spotlight! As a voracious reader, I’m always looking for recommendations for new reads, especially in dystopian fiction. Elizabeth, in her posts on The Quiddity of Speculation, wrote briefly about the explosion in Young Adult Dystopian fiction since The Hunger Games was published in 2008. One of the series briefly spotlighted was Lauren DeStefano’s Chemical Garden Series, and she asked that I spotlight it since I had recently finished reading the series. Even though they are set in the same world and follow an over-arching plot line, each book in the series is distinct, so I will bring you a spotlight on each individually.

Book Spotlight: The Postmortal by Drew Magary

Guten Tag Beardies!

It’s not often you encounter a book that stays with you weeks, even months after you read it, and when you do, it’s a treat like nothing else. The Postmortal is the first novel from Drew Magary.
