Book Spotlight: Thorns of an Innocent Soul by Barbara Watkins

Happy Day Beardies!

I survived! Another Halloween is now in the record books: I planned and ran a 4th grade school party, I watched 600+ kids parade through the school gym, AND I took my 3 kiddos out Trick-or-Treating—not once, but twice! We joined a majority of our town in doing a safe Trick-or-Treating along Main Street from 3-5pm. Then, after a hearty dinner, we ventured out into the neighborhood where we spent a few more hours collecting an ungodly amount of sugar. Fun was had by one and all, and I think I've eaten enough Sweetarts to get me through to next Halloween; I'm glad I survived to tell the tale. Speaking of mayhem and the macabre, I love a good thriller or mystery book to read around Halloween—and today's Book Spotlight was definitely an interesting novella to read for the holiday.

Book Spotlight: The Amazing Adventures of Toby the Trilby by Angela Castillo (A Bearded Scribe Blog Tour)

Bonjour, Beardies!

Although most of our Book Spotlights are either for Young Adult or Adult Speculative Fiction, when this intriguing Middle Grade story fell into my inbox for a Blog Tour, I couldn't pass up the chance to review it.

Book Spotlight: Mirror of the Nameless by Luke Walker

Bonjour, Beardies!

When I first started The Bearded Scribe in 2012, Elizabeth pointed me to a website, called NetGalley, where I could obtain Advance Reader Copies directly from publishers. I occasionally receive emails alerting me of titles in which I might be interested, and last month one such email landed in my inbox.

Most of the titles didn't capture my interest; none, really, save one: a new horror. Although I am not much for the gory side of horror, I do enjoy a well-written scary tale and the darker side of fantasy. Mix in a bit of divine intervention and some paranormal flavoring, and you have a chilling recipe for a delectable ghoul-ash...

That is the case of the today's Book Spotlight, Mirror of the Nameless by Luke Walker.

Book Spotlight: The Survivors by Daniel Harvell

Happy Day Beardies,

I’m in season! What? No seasonal, weather joke fans out there? When I look out my window I can see the leaves are changing colors. The air is noticeably cooler and feels crisp. Everything is smelling pumpkin spiced. I am one happy camper. All joking aside, autumn is my favorite season ('tis a mystery why, right?); I’m giddy to spend every waking moment outside before the dreaded snow begins to take over the landscape. While I am a weather lover, I am a bigger book enthusiast so let’s get down to the real reason I’m here chatting it up today, another Book Spotlight.

Book Spotlight: The Haunting Season by Michelle Muto

Bonjour Beardies,

Yesterday, as you all know, The Bearded Scribe hosted a stop on a Blog Tour for Michelle Muto's title, The Haunting Season. Today I will be digging a little deeper into this Paranormal Fantasy, highlighting specific strengths of the author—strengths that writers should consider emulating in their own stories.
